The proposals are accepted in the following research fields: mathematics, computer science and systems science; physics and space science; chemistry and material sciences; biology and life sciences; basic research for medicine; agricultural sciences; earth sciences; humanities and social sciences; engineering sciences.

The research should be aimed at solving specific problems within the framework of five thematic areas: biotechnology, animal health, plant pests and diseases, forestry management, and vegetable production.

Evaluation of the projects will be carried out both by the Russian and Japanese sides. Only teams that received positive assessments by reviewers representing both countries can be awarded. The amount of one RSF grant will be from 4 to 6 million rubles annually in 2020–2022. The applications can be submitted until February 25, 2020 with results available to public later in April.

“Together with our Japanese partners, we plan to implement perhaps the fastest competition cycle in the RSF history. From the date of submission start to the announcement of the winners, it will take about two months, which is a time of uncertainty for the participants of the competition. At the same time, we informed scientists about thematic areas last December, so that they had the opportunity to prepare their project proposals in good quality in advance”, commented this call announcement the RSF international projects spokesperson Sergey Konovalov.
