RSF approves funding for 657 research projects

Although the spread of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 resulted in review meetings mostly taking in remote mode, the Russian Science Foundation is committed to ensure that funding activities continue as smoothly as possible. In line with its initial plans the RSF announced the results of four grant competitions, including those organized in accordance with the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin following a meeting with leading researchers in May 2019.

Research proposals with engagement of outstanding researchers

According to the results of the competitive selection, 52 projects were recognized as winners. The implementation of these particular research projects in all science disciplines should engage at least two outstanding scientists, opinion leaders in their respective fields, on the yearly basis. They are required to make short-term (at least 1 month) visits to the host organization to give lectures and to participate in seminars, schools for young researchers on the relevant subject of the project, as well as to contribute to the research on the project.

The size of one grant will be from 5 to 8 million Russian rubles annually.

Transdisciplinary research proposals

Through the competitive selection, RSF approved funding for 24 transdisciplinary projects consisting of several interrelated projects of research groups representing different research fields.

The grant for the implementation of one transdisciplinary project will be from 8 to 12 million Russian rubles yearly.

Both these calls for proposals were held in accordance with the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin following a meeting with scientists held in May 2019 in Sochi.

Project proposals by research groups

RSF approved awards for 406 new projects implemented by research groups consisting of 4-10 team members.

The size of one grant will be from 4 to 6 million Russian rubles annually.

Proposals for the extension of projects of research groups that started in 2017

The conditions of the call for proposals for the support of research groups in 2017 provided for the possibility of extending the duration of the projects by 1 or 2 years on a competitive basis. The corresponding call for extension proposals was announced in 2019 and ended up with 312 extension proposals submitted to the RSF by project investigators.

The competitive selection resulted in 175 extensions granted.

The size of one grant will be from 4 to 6 million Russian rubles annually.

All approved research projects are presented on the RSF website and can be found here.

The Russian Science Foundation extends its best wishes for a successful outcome of all investigators and participants of the projects supported!
