It brought together over 20 researchers from the RSF-funded projects representing the leading neurosciences research performing organizations in Russia such as Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Research Center of Neurology, Institute of Physiologically Active Compounds of RAS, Krasnoyarsk State Medical University, Saint-Petersburg State University, Institute of Higher Nervus Activity and Neurophysiology of RAS, Kurchatov Institute, Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of RAS, and researchers from the Tokyo University, Tokushima University and Kyushu University, from Japan.
At the opening of the event, Sergey Konovalov, RSF representative, Dr. Yasutake Katoh, AMED representative, and Dr. Ekaterina Ivukina, representative of the the Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University that is hosting the workshop, gave remarks to welcome the development of collaboration between the two countries in clinical neurosciences.

The participants presented state of the art findings concerning their ongoing cutting-edge projects in neurosciences and explored opportunities for collaboration such as personalized treatments of neurodegenerative diseases, new approaches and applications in brain research, innovative neuroprotective mechanisms, etc.
The workshop was an excellent forum for discussion and development of the research projects of mutual interest, offering a pleasant roundtable atmosphere with a good opportunity for networking. After the workshop, it is expected that RSF and AMED will begin to discuss details of future projects and related funding mechanisms. AMED has committed the significant financial resources needed for Japanese scientists to attend this workshop.
RSF and AMED will continuously seize the opportunities to engage in funding the top-level collaborations between the Russian and Japanese researchers in clinical neurosciences and other strategic research fields.
