RSF presents its best projects at international workshop

On January 29, representatives from a number of Russian and Korean executive bodies, think tanks, policy makers and research organisations including the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Russian Ministry of Economic Development, Higher School of Economics, IMEMO RAS, MGIMO, Korean Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI), Korean Institute of Industrial Technology (KISTECH), Hankook University of Foreign Studies gathered in a seminar on S&T policy workshop organized by the Moscow representative office of the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) with the support from the Ministry of Science and ICT of Korea (MSIT). They discussed current issues of state science policy, technological trends forecasting, international S&T cooperation, including the projects currently underway between Russian and Korean partners, touching on the challenges and future prospects.

The main agenda of the workshop included the analysis of recent changes in the science and technology policy of Russia and Korea, a review of new tools to support R&D, exchange of information on country priorities, including international S&T cooperation, the discussion of promising areas for IPR protection in the course of bilateral research projects. Each of the organisations introduced themselves and their work, before the some 40 attendees used the science and research networking meeting as a chance to talk about potential areas of collaboration and synergies for future joint activities.

Sergey Konovalov, coordinator of international projects of the Russian Science Foundation, was invited along to share the most brilliant discoveries by the RSF-funded research teams in the past year. 

"There are the projects in our funding portfolio that we can really be proud of. The technologies for replacing the mistral heart valve, creating synthetic skin that can change color, 3D-printing of human tissues in space, breeding healthy purple wheat , discovery of a hybrid of different types of people in Denisova Cave and many other amazing success research stories of our leading scientists", says Konovalov. According to him, any foreign scientists doing research on similar or related issues, including researchers from Korea, could advance the ideas of these studies further.

Speaking about the international activities of the Russian Science Foundation, the RSF representative drew the attention of the workshop participants to the decision taken in December 2018 about the possibility for principle investigators to apply for another grant in the framework of the international RSF calls in addition to the existing RSF grant: 

"We expect this bold decision of our supervisory board will contribute to the development of our joint funding programs, implemented together with other international funding partners. "
