The Presidential research funding program was developed by the order of the President of the Russian Federation in order to promote an outstanding basic and exploratory research in Russia that is internationally recognized and to support the best Russian scientists. This program was initiated in the course of the meeting of the President of Russia with leading researchers, the participants of so-called “megagrant” program. All research projects supported under this program should make a significant contribution to science and help solve the "grand challenges", identified in the Russia’s Strategy of the scientific and technological development. The Presidential research funding program has been implemented by the Russian Science Foundation since 2017.
