Priority areas and goal

The Foundation functions in the following priority areas approved by the Supervisory Board:

  • Basic research by small research groups. In this area, the Foundation finances projects of small research teams in the amount of up to 5 million rubles annually; project duration is 3 years with possible extension by 2 years.

  • Basic research by established research laboratories (departments). In this area, the Foundation funds research projects of established laboratories (departments) in the amount of up to 20 million rubles annually; project duration is 3 years with possible extension by 2 years.

  • Basic research by new laboratories created by scientific organizations and institutions of higher education. In this area, the Foundation funds research projects in joint laboratories conducted by specialists from a research institute and an institution of higher education, in the amount of up to 25 million rubles annually; project duration is 3 years with possible extension by 2 years. Organizations which have acquired a grant of this type on a competitive basis must  contribute to the infrastructure of the new laboratory and to co-fund the project (including contributions from the founders of the organization) in the amount of at least 25% of the grant provided by the Foundation. 

  • Advanced interdisciplinary research programs in scientific organizations to promote development of human resources in the field of science, world-class research & development and science intensive production. In this area, the Foundation offers funding to advanced research programs of scientific organizations and universities. A grant may amount to 150 million rubles annually. Organizations which have acquired a grant of this type on a competitive basis must contribute at least 25% of the amount provided by the Foundation. Funding for the programs will be provided for a 3-year period with possible extension by 2 years.

  • Basic research by international teams. In this area, the Foundation will finance projects of international teams involved in basic research in Russian scientific institutes and educational organizations, international (multinational and intergovernmental) scientific organizations located in the Russian Federation with grants of up to 30 million rubles a year. Duration of a project can be up to 3 years, with possible extension by 2 years.

Organizations, which have acquired a grant of this type in a competitive process, are obliged to contribute to the infrastructure of the new laboratory and to co-fund the project (including contributions from the founders of the organization) in the amount no less than 25% of the grant provided by the Foundation.

  • Basic research by international research teams. In this area, the Foundation will finance research projects of international teams involved in basic research in Russian scientific institutes and educational organizations, international (inter-state and intergovernmental) scientific organizations located within the territory of the Russian Federation in the amount of up to 30 million rubles a year. Duration of a project can be up to 3 years, with possible extension for 2 years.
